Nessie - The Monster of Loch Ness

The story about the Loch Ness monster has been know since 6th century when Saint Columba supposedly saw this monster. In 1880, the first official sighting occurred. In 20th century, the first report about Nessie (how the monster is popular know) is dated from 1923, but the story only became popular after 1933, when a couple should see the monster.
In 1934, R. K. Wilson claimed that he had photographed Nessie. However, in 1994 Marmaduke Wetherell confessed that he must have lying about being Dr. Wilson and the truthfulness of the photo.

Although in 2003 the Scottish Government has declared that the Loch Ness monster doesn’t exist, even today many scientists argue about the existence of Nessie and many debatable evidences appear to confirm some theories.

Theories:
  • Some scientists claim that Nessie would be a plesiosaur, a species of dinosaur, but due to some characteristics of them like doesn’t live in cold water and dosen’t raise their heads of the water as Nessie is supposed to do, many scientists say that this theory is questionable and Nessie be  a relative of plesiosaurs is a more provable explanation.
  • Plesiosaur - A species of dinosaur
  • Another theory is that people must have confused “esturjões” (how the fish family Ascipenseridae are know) with a monster.
  • A different and debatable explanation is that the monster is a government’s conspiracy.
